| What you are seeing is a slide show of various views from Morningside Farm in Brevard, North Carolina.
The Farm is owned and operated by John Felty and Cheri Miller. Our philosophy has always been to have an open door and to share this beautiful piece of land with anyone wishing to discover its richness. You don't have to go to the wilderness to get back to nature. If you take the time to look, there is a world of biological diversity and spiritual enrichment in your own back yard! That's what makes Morningside Farm so special. It is a nature paradise abounding with many different types of flora and fauna. In the 1940's and 50's the land was a marigold farm. Prior to that and until mid 1970 it was used for produce, mostly corn and at one time sorghum. There has been great effort in returning the land to its natural state. In doing so habitat has been re-established for birds and wildlife. And with the change in seasons come different animals visiting and in many cases nesting in the area. An inventory of plant life will be under way soon. Many species of wildflowers can be identified through the spring, summer and fall. And true to Brevard, North Carolina's claim, there is a healthy population of White Squirrels on the Farm..... So what we have is a private nature preserve. John, who is a native of Brevard, NC, and his wife Cheri know the area very well and are both avid hikers and nature enthusiasts. John is a musician and artist who has traveled extensively through the U. S. performing with his band Jupiter Coyote. This experience has offered many opportunities to help shape their vision of what Morningside Farm is and will evolve into while maintaining the integrity of the land in a natural state. He is also active in the community and is the co-founder of Mountain Song Festival which is held at the Brevard Music Center and is the music coordinator for the White Squirrel Festival. Cheri, originally from Kentucky, is a dancer/educator receiving a masters in fine arts degree in dance from the Univ. of Colorado, Boulder. She is currently on faculty at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Our goal is to build community by sharing a place for people to work, relax and to enjoy the wonders of nature that so often inspires us creatively and spiritually..... Imagine what the Cherokee saw here. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our facilities or the Brevard,NC / Transylvania County area. |
